Try the check on a fictional sample payout file, made up for a store that does not exist. It goes through the same check as your own file would, and is deleted on the same schedule.
Your file and a free check's results are deleted within 25 hours of the check finishing. A paid report is kept 3 days after payment, and a report opened with a 3-Month Pass until the pass ends, and at least 3 days after it was opened. Data retention, including backups

Finding the file
Where your export lives
Each marketplace keeps it in a different place, and calls it something different when it gets there.
How to export from Shopify
- Open Shopify admin, then Settings, then Payments
- Click View payouts, then View Transactions, then Export
- Choose the date range and the CSV type, then Export balance transactions
- Shopify sends the file by email; upload it here
To check one payout against a bank deposit, export that payout on its own instead: Finance, then Payouts, then click the date of the payout, then Export, then Export payout transactions. Shopify is rolling out a new payouts view, so your menu may look slightly different.
How to export from Amazon
- In legacy Seller Central, go to the All Statements page of the Payments report
- Click Download Flat File V2 in the Actions column for the settlement period you want
- Upload the file here
In new Seller Central, go to Finance Report. Amazon's help does not name the format of the download there, and PayoutCheck reads only Flat File V2. Downloads are not available for the current settlement period. These steps are from Amazon's help for selling in the United States, and menus differ by Seller Central version. The older XML and V1 flat file reports are being removed on 11 November 2026.
Your data
What happens to your file
- Encrypted the moment it arrives, before anything reads it.
- Free check: your file and results are deleted within 25 hours.
- Paid report: your file is still deleted within 25 hours, and the report is kept 3 days after payment so you can download it.
- Report opened with a 3-Month Pass: kept until the pass ends, and at least 3 days after it was opened.
- You can delete your audit and its uploaded file yourself, any time, from the audit page. Backup copies can still exist for a limited time.
- Never sold, and never sent to anyone but our hosting provider.
